According to the 2013 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers published by the National Association of REALTORS, the median age of home buyers remains unchanged from 2012 at 42 years.
The largest share of home buyers is in the 25 to 34 age group, accounting for 30% of recent home buyers in the market. Buyers in the Midwest region tend to be younger, while buyers in the West region tend to be older.
The age groups with the smallest percentage of buyers are 18 to 24 years (with 3% of home buyers) and 75 years and older (with 4%).
