How Did Newport News, Virginia Get Its Name?

Posted by Lynnette Tully on Fri, Jul 21, 2017 @ 02:54 PM

Do you know how Newport News got its name?

Steeped in history, ours is a community of diverse trades including shipbuilding, technological research and international commerce. We are proud of our city and its rich heritage which dates back to the founding of America.

Newport News was named for Christopher Newport, captain of the Susan Constant, the lead ship of the three ship fleet that carried the Jamestown settlers to the new world in 1607. Captain Newport made several more trips between the new world and England. After the Starving Time of 1610, the original colonists abandoned Jamestown and encountered Captain Newport in the James River and learned that reinforcements of men and supplies had arrived, thus prompting their return to Jamestown. The place where that occurred became known for Newport’s good news, ‘Newport’s News,’ and eventually just Newport News.

Since the turn of the 19th century, Newport News has been known as the provider of the nation’s finest, technologically advanced military ships. In more recent years, Newport News has also become a center for international commerce, research and technology. Our economy is strengthened by a strong military presence in Hampton Roads and, in Newport News, we are proud to be home of the U.S. Army Transportation Center at Fort Eustis. The City’s historic sites, museums and cultural facilities compliment the quality of life for Newport News residents and businesses. The City boasts 18 public parks, as well as public boat ramps and recreation facilities.

Happy 13th Anniversary, Liz Moore & Associates!

Posted by Lynnette Tully on Mon, Dec 19, 2016 @ 12:04 PM

In honor of our 13th anniversary as a company, here's a little "Monday Morning Mojo" from Liz!

Good morning, LMA!

It’s not every year that December 19th, our Company’s anniversary, falls on a Monday so that I can take advantage of the special occasion for a Monday Morning Mojo!  Hard to believe that we are celebrating our 13th year in business.LMA Logo HIGH RES.jpg

It seems like yesterday that we were opening our doors at 11801 Canon Boulevard in Newport News for the very first time!  With 32 agents and a handful of staff, all eager to begin reinventing real estate, we jumped into a fast paced market not really knowing what to expect.  We enjoyed the real estate glory days until late 2006, when the market began to shift.  We were fortunate to shift with it, and we actually grew our market share and our team by leaps and bounds, despite the economic downturn between late 2007 and 2012.  The last 3 years have been our best yet, as the market and economy have rebounded, and we have been blessed to outpace the market, and enjoy a remarkably high % of repeat and referral business.  Because you all are Rock Stars!!

I am so excited about 2017 and the years ahead.  Richmond is off to an incredible start – 18 amazing agents on board since September 1st, and a wonderful team spirit and momentum in the new office.  Property management added 109 new management agreements this year, which is truly incredible performance for only 4 property managers.  We’ve ramped up our support teams considerably in the past few years to ensure that we deliver the same level of service as we grow – and that new energy has opened many new doors.  Both Newport News and Williamsburg have enjoyed healthy sales years, and welcomed some fabulous new talent to our team, teeing us up for record levels of performance in 2017 and beyond.

From mannequin challenges to wine label design to angel trees, you all are living proof that real estate can be *FUN* as well as profitable, and that we can deliver an extraordinary experience to our community as well as to our clients.  For that, I am truly grateful.

You all inspire me to look forward to coming to work each and every day, even after 13 years.  That’s 676 Monday Morning Mojos – whew!  Ok, I may have missed a few :-)

A special 13th anniversary wish to Brian, Donna, Dewey, Ingrid, Debi, Teresa, Janet, Phyllis, Joanna, and Erik!

- Liz

We Are Reinventing Real Estate in Richmond!

Posted by Liz Moore on Thu, Sep 01, 2016 @ 03:59 PM

Presentation1-1.jpg

Liz Moore and Associates is excited to announce that we are expanding our reach to the Richmond market opening an office in Midlothian, Virginia.  Liz Moore’s first Richmond area office is scheduled to open September 1st.

This new office will introduce the Richmond market to the Liz Moore & Associates brand, a real estate company focused on the client experience with client-centered services like pre-listing inspections and appraisals, exceptional customer service, and creative marketing strategies.

The Midlothian based office will be led by Tonya Morrow as Richmond Managing Broker.  Tonya is recognized as an innovator in Richmond area real estate, bringing with her a successful track record in sales management.  Morrow, who recently completed the Richmond Association of REALTORS Leadership Academy, is highly respected by local agents for her creative ideas and results driven coaching.

Annemarie Hensley, currently ranked fourth in overall residential resale sales volume in the local market, will serve as the anchor agent for the new office, bringing her team of 5 to the new venture.

Liz Moore & Associates was founded in 2003 by President Liz Moore and her partner Brian D. Lytle, with a vision for an enlightened real estate agency where all the greatest agents want to work, and where business is solidly built on enthusiastic referrals and out-of-the box marketing techniques.  Liz built the company from the inside out, creating the systems and resources that would allow agents to “wow” clients by delivering exceptional customer service.  Liz is very excited to expand and serve the growing Richmond market.

“I’ve always been interested in expanding into key markets in the Commonwealth, and when this opportunity presented itself, it was simply too good to pass up,” says Liz Moore.  “I was approached by two very accomplished women who were interested in introducing the Liz Moore brand to the Richmond market; they saw the need for a boutique brokerage with a laser focus on the client experience, and our plan is to fill that gap.”

To learn more about Liz Moore & Associates, this new Richmond area office, and new team members Tonya Morrow and Annemarie Hensley, please visit www.lizmoore.com/rva or email RVA@lizmoore.com.

Food Bank Fundraiser Success!

Posted by Lynnette Tully on Thu, Jul 28, 2016 @ 04:06 PM

Our Food Bank Fundraiser and Children's Can Building Competition was a huge success!  The team fromLiz Moore and Associates, along with help from WISC, Ironbound Gym and Kiwanis Club, collected over 1,600 cans of food.  These donations are helping our local food bank prepare for their summer food service program which is designed to fill the nutrition gap and make sure children get the nutritious meals they need while school is out.

We had four teams of kids, and one "dad team" that couldn't resist the fun, build houses with the non-perishable food items that were collected.  The winning house was built by Joseph Carr and Amelia Troup. They were both awarded Fun Passes to Busch Gardens, and all participants received a gift card to Sweet Frog.

Thank you to all who helped make this event not only fun, but successful!  We can't wait to do it again next year.
