Barktoberfest Dog Walk and Festival at Mill Point Park

matt-nelson-259365-unsplashBarktoberfest (previously Paws for a Cause), the Peninsula SPCA’a annual fundraiser will take place at Mill Point Park on Saturday, October 20 from 12-5 p.m.

The family- and dog-friendly event will include rescue animals, vendors, exhibitors and community partners, all to benefit homeless animals at the shelter.

The annual Dog Walk is also back!  Guests don’t have to participate in the Dog Walk to attend, but those who do must register in advance. 

Registration fees for the Dog Walk:

  • between September 4-30 – $15
  • between October 1-16 – $20

Barktoberfest includes fun fall activities, live music, and a craft brew beer garden!

Festival admission is $5 per person. A Barktoberfest Package – which includes a Bow-Wow beer tasting ticket, Dog Walk registration, event admission, a souvenir glass and an exclusive Barktoberfest t-shirt – is available for $35.

All proceeds will benefit the Peninsula SPCA’s animals and programs.

$5 Admission to The Mariners' Museum and Park in September

1431191834The Mariners’ Museum and Park is offering $5 admission for anyone who brings in a non-perishable food donation for the Peninsula Food Bank during the month of September in honor of Hunger Action Month. Each person must bring a donated item to receive this special admission price. Offer not valid with other discounts or on movie tickets.

Today, The Mariners’ Museum sits in an urban oasis – the 550 acre park is now home to the 167-acre Lake Maury and the Noland Trail – a five-mile shoreline trail with fourteen bridges. Within the Museum itself you will find 90,000 square feet of exhibition galleries including the prestigious International Small Craft Center, and the award-winning USS Monitor Center. This state-of-the-art exhibition and conservation lab houses 210 tons of artifacts from the Civil War ironclad Monitor, which were recovered from NOAA’s Monitor National Marine Sanctuary.

The Mariners’ Museum Library and Archives is home to over 78,000 books; 800,000 photographs, films, and negatives; and over 1 million pieces of archival material, making it the largest maritime library in the Western Hemisphere.

Relax on Thursday evenings throughout the summer at Flowers After 5 at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. Stroll through the gardens; enjoy live music, wine, and beer, dining, and shopping.

Please note: No outside food and drink are allowed inside the Garden; food and drink are available for purchase. See menu (PDF). . Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Some chairs and tables are available, but they are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Merchants Square Summer Breeze Concert Series

The Summer Breeze outdoor concert series in Merchants Square is back!  Concerts will take place every Wednesday from June 6th - September 19th from 6-9pm.

Bring your lawn chair and spend the evening listing to the sounds of local music.  All concerts are free and will be on the Lawn of the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Colonial Williamsburg.

Warmer weather is finally here! Come out to Port Warwick every Wednesday, 6-9pm through August 29th (no concert July 4) to enjoy the summer night air on Styron Square listening to the area’s best music.

The concerts are FREE and all are welcome! Bring your own lawn chairs (no tents), blankets, food and drink – beer and wine allowed. Or enjoy the music from one of Port Warwick restaurant patios.
