Water Street Grille Running Club- Wednesdays at 6PM

Do you enjoy running? Do you also like delicious food and craft beer? If so, then the Water Street Grille Running Club is for you! The club participates in a free, weekly family-friendly 5k run/walk every Wednesday at 6PM. The route begins on the beachfront of Yorktown Riverwalk Beach, continues onto Main Street of Historic Yorktown and goes by the Visitor Center, arek-adeoye-213476-unsplashending up on the beach side of Water Street Grille. Farmers’ Market at CNU- April 12th and 19th

Are you looking for a fun place to purchase local food, beauty products, crafts or clothing? Visit the beautiful campus of Christopher Newport University and purchase delicious locally sourced food or check out the selection of creative crafts. Established in 2011, the Farmers’ Market at Christopher Newport University is a student run event that sells locally sourced products with an emphasis on sustainability. Follow their Facebook page @FarmersMarketCNU to receive updates on petting zoos, musical acts, games and other special events peter-wendt-123928-unsplashthat are hosted throughout the Spring season. The markets will be held in front of the David Student Union on campus on April 12th and April 19th from 3PM to 6PM  **Free visitor parking is located in parking Lot B, which is located behind the Pope Chapel**. Stop by Jack's Vegetable Garden and learn how to grow food, sow a seed and take it home to watch it grow. Visit the farm and hand feed the goats, or take a family-friendly tour of the Dooleys' Victorian mansion.  Explore Maymont's adventurous 100 acres of landkatherine-mccormack-65111-unsplash in a family scavenger hunt or get to know local Chesapeake Bay creatures in an animal touch tank. During spring break week at Maymont there are fun activities for everyone! Many activities require fees and/or advance registration. Going Places Exhibit at The Science Museum of Virginia- Now through August 19th

Do you enjoy going places? Sure, we all do! But do you take the time to understand exactly how you arrived at your destination? The Science Museum of Virginia has answers! If your kids enjoy interactive exhibitions and learning about the technology behind everyday travel, then they will love the Going Places exhibit. They can practice piloting a plane in the flight simulator, pack a cargo ship without sinking it and ride on a hovercraft. ross-parmly-25230.jpgThey will also learn how transportation has evolved to utilize Earth's natural forces to move us along. Be sure to explore all seventeen exhibits and eight information kiosks, as your experience is sure to be a wild ride! The Going Places exhibit is open from February 16th to August 19th, 2018. The museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5PM and on Sundays from 11:30 AM to 5PM. Please note that online ticketing is currently unavailable, and the museum has asked those interested in purchasing tickets to call (804)-864-1400 for more information. The Story of Virginia Exhibit at the Virginia Historical Society- Through January 31st

Check out this recently renovated 10,500 square-foot exhibit that examines 16,000 years of Virginia history! The exhibit features over 500 artifacts, letters, diaries and maps including early stone tools and a satellite built by high school students in 2013. Artifacts and objects in the exhibit are supplemented by video, images, soundscapes and hands-on interactive areas. Be sure to see this exciting historical adventure for yourself and watch Virginia’s history come alive! The Story of Virginia Exhibit is free and the Virginia Historical Society is open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Pictures with Santa at Yankee Candle Factory- Saturday, December 16th

Do your kids still need a picture with Santa or do they still need to let him know what they want for Christmas? You’re in luck! Stop by the Yankee Candle Factory on Saturday, December 16th between 9:00 AM and 8:30 PM or during select hours during the holiday season (see link to calendar below). Santa will be there ready to greet your children, listen to gift requests and take pictures. The store will have a mike-arney-174173.jpgprofessional photographer available at select times during the holiday season. Holiday Candlelight Tour of Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest- December 2017

Get into the holiday spirit with a candlelit tour of Thomas Jefferson’s villa getaway decorated for the season. Take a look at what an evening might have been like for Jefferson and his family and hear anecdotes collected from his letters and diaries as you tour the octagonal house. Tours are offered Thursdays, December 7th and 14th at 5:30 PM, as well as Fridays and Saturdays, December 8th and 9th and 15th and 16th at 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM. Admission is $20 per person and tickets can be purchased here or by calling the Museum Shop at (434)-534-pascal-muller-151589.jpg8120. Please note that there is plaster repair work going on inside of Jefferson’s home so the site will reflect these renovations. The address to the entrance of the Poplar Forest is 1542 Bateman Bridge Road, Forest, Virginia 24551. Also please note to use Route 811 to access the forest as Bateman Bridge Road is closed through February of 2018.

25th Annual Celebration of Lights- Now through January 1st 2018

Newport News’ premier annual drive through holiday light event opened to the public on November 23rd and runs through January 1st, 2018. Newport News Park is transformed into a bustling holiday scene with over one million lights that form beautiful displays and animated scenes. The two mile drive along the main road of Newport News Park is illuminated with over 300 individual display pieces, 43 arches and three miles of rope lighting. For its 25th anniversary this year, two giant 25’ x 16’ screens will be added to the end of the display and will show animated holiday scenes. The Forest of Lights display area will also feature upgraded LED lights clem-onojeghuo-172144.jpgthat will allow for more complex colors in the trees. The Celebration of Lights is open nightly from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM and admission is $12 per car or $60 per bus (cash, credit cards Visa/MC and checks made payable to the City of Newport News are accepted). Advance/gift tickets can be purchased at the Newport News visitor center. Newport News Park is located at the intersection of Ft. Eustis Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, Virginia.

Mary Poppins at the Virginia Repertory Theatre- through December 31st 2017

Be sure to visit the Virginia Repertory Theatre for Mary Poppins, a show that the whole family will love! Based on the Disney film and books by P.L. Travers, this award-winning musical follows Mary Poppins on her adventure through London. This performance features original music and lyrics by Richard and Robert Sherman,peter-lewicki-411606.jpg and new songs and additional music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.  The show runs from November 17th to December 31st 2017, and single tickets range from $36 to $65. The performance is approximately two hours and forty minutes with intermission. Purchase tickets here

19th Annual Coliseum Central Holiday Parade- November 18th
