In an article recently published by RISMedia, a survey of 10,000 households by The Demand Institute shows that nearly half of all Americans plan on moving sometime in the future. The survey also revealed some interesting trends:
- 3 out of 4 respondents cited location as the primary factor for moving decisions.
- 74% of movers will stay in-state, and 60% will remain within 30 miles of their current home.
- For those moving out of state, most will move west or south, with climate change being the primary motivator.
- Rural population is declining, dropping from 22% in 1990 to 16% in 2014. The suburban population has held steady at 50%, while city population has climbed to 24%.
- Safety is driving force for continued moves to the suburbs.
