After months of searching, you found the home that is just right for you, made it through the negotiating phase and signed on the dotted line at the closing table.  The only thing left is to move all of your furniture in, right?  Wrong!

According to Houzz.com, there are seven things you should do before beginning life in your new home.  buying a home

1.  Change the locks on the exterior doors.  You never know who could still have a key to the house!

2.  Clean the house.  Even if the previous owner cleaned before they left, you should still go through and clean your new home yourself.

3.  Paint the walls and ceilings.  It is much easier to paint while the house is empty, than worrying about covering and moving around furniture later.

4.  Get some organizers.  Think about where everything will go (laundry detergent, your winter boots, etc.).  Being organized makes your home easier to live in.

5. Install new switch plates and other devices.  Replacing switch plates produces a uniformity that can make your home look newer and cleaner.

6. Have the mechanical equipment cleaned and serviced.  Do this as soon as you buy the house!

7. Install window treatments.  Getting something on your windows at the beginning will give you privacy and that finishing touch to your new home.
