As a home seller it is important that you, and your real estate agent, know where buyers are finding homes in the current market.  After all, you want your home to be in front of as many potential buyers as possible.  The statistics have shifted quite a bit over the last eleven years, and according to the National Association of Realtors Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, these are where buyers found the home they purchased in 2012:where do buyers find houses

1.  Internet - 42%
In 2001 that number was only 8%, in 2006 it was at 24%, and it continues to grow.

2.  Real Estate Agent - 34%
This number was much higher in 2001 at 48% and has declined slowly over the years.

3.  Yard Sign/Open House Sign - 10%
This was holding strong between 14% and 16% up until 2009, where it dipped down to 12%, and has continued to decline.

4.  Friend, Relative, Neighbor - 6%
This category has not shifted much over the years, only back and forth between 8% and 7%, and then to 6% the past four years.

5.  Home Builder or Their Agent - 5%
This number has gone up from 3% in 2001, and was as high as 8% in 2006-2007.

6.  Directly from the Sellers/Knew the Sellers - 2%
This number has typically stayed around 3% and 4%, and had stayed at 2% since 2008.

7.  Print Newspaper Ad - 1%
This category has been on a steady decline since being as high as 7% in 2001.
