If you have lived in Hampton Roads for any amount of time, you know that Hampton Bay Days is an end of Summer staple.  After more than 30 years running, organizers announced that this three-day event has been canceled.

According to the Daily Press, the group's decision comes a week after the city announced it would cut cash funding and in-kind contributions to the nonprofit group that organizes the festival in future years.

Hampton Bay Days president Chuck Leavines said the city's announcement led to sponsors and vendors pulling out of the event.

Leavines was flanked by close to two dozen supporters who stood while he spoke then left the City Council chambers after Leavines ended his comments.

Bay Days was held each September and drew thousands of people downtown, attracted by the bands, fireworks, vendors and other entertainment.

This event has received numerous awards from Coastal Virginia Magazine and Veer Magazine in recent years including "best outdoor festival" in 2012.

According to the event's Facebook Page, the Hampton Bay Days Organization is still in operation and future events are still in the works.
