When home buyers begin their home search, a shortage of information is not a problem they are faced with.  Buyers can find homes using many different tools from the newspaper, to yard signs, and of course, the internet.  According to the National Association of REALTORS Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, here are the top seven places buyers found the home theywhere do buyers look for homes purchased in 2013:

7.  Newspaper Ad
While the percentage of buyers who found their home in a newspaper ad was 7% back in 2003, it has been steadily declining and now comes in at 1%.

6.  Directly from Sellers
There are times when buyers find their house because of the seller, usually meaning the buyer and seller know each other.  In 2013, this was the case 2% of the time.

5.  Home Builder/Agent
This number was around 3% in 2001.  It rose to 7%-8% in 2003-2008, and dipped back down to 5% in 2013.

4.  Friend, Relative or Neighbor
This number has been at 7%-8% from 2001 to 2007, when it went down to 6%, and has stayed at 6% through 2013.

3.  Yard Sign/Open House Sign
At its highest, the percentage of buyers that found their home via yard sign or open house sign was 16%.  In 2013, that number was 9%.

2.  Real Estate Agent
Coming in at number two, 33% of buyers found their home by way of their real estate agent.  At its highest, that number was 48% in 2001.

1.  Internet
Most likely not a surprise, the internet was the number one place buyers found the home they purchased.  This number has been consistently on the rise.  In 2001, only 8% of buyers found their home online, in 2006 it went up to 24%, in 2009 it was at 36%, and in 2013 43% of buyers used the internet to find the home they purchased.
